I ran the narrows!

Postby broncomarc » Sun Apr 28, 2013 11:53 am

Well, maybe not ran. More of a walk.

I went camping/hiking at Natural Bridge this weekend. I decided to make a hike out of the narrows/White's Branch arch trail. I drove back Big Bend rd to where we turned from the nature trail onto the narrows trail, parked and hiked it.

The entrance looks pretty much the same as the last time I saw it. Fenced off, big ditch, big boulders. The only difference was the walking bridge has been torn out.

Not too far down the trail I came across the mud hole on the side of the trail that I think a lot of us have been thru. It really hasn't grown over much.

There was one little 'tank trap' hole I came across, but nothing that would be too hard to drive across. But a ways down the trail I came across another ditch/boulders like the ones at the entrance. This one did have a bypass on the side to get around it.

Not too far down the trail was another one. This one had another pedestrian bridge that had been torn out. There was also a guardrail on the side of this one so you could not get around it.

The trail seemed to still be in good shape. There was nothing much more than grass grown on the trail. It wasn't grown over at all. It was a nice walk down memory lane.

That trail is part of the Sheltowee Trace trail, so it can't be shut down to hikers, and maybe equestrian. http://www.sheltoweetrace.com/

It runs the border of Natural Bridge State Park and the Daniel Boone National Forest, so I'm not sure who's land it's on.

Looked on the website... This looks interesting. Possibility of reopening the road.

I received a few emails about this. They reopened it for about a day and it was closed again. The plan was to force them to reopen it. but it died off within two days. The Judge is still researching if they can force them to reopen it.
